The Erythrodiplax paraguayensis is a species of dragonfly of the genus Erythrodiplax from the subfamily Sympetrinae . Their distribution area extends from Venezuela to Argentina . It is preferred to be found in standing water.

Construction of the larva

The larva has a hairless body except for the prothorax . The head is longer than the thorax with four notches on the lower jaw. The molar tooth formula is (2-4), but always without a molar dam. The third segment of the antennas is the longest. The head of the larva reaches a size of 1.4 mm, whereby it is even 1.5 mm large in the exuvial stage . The width of the head is 3.4 mm in the larval and 3.6 mm in the exuvial stage.

Naming

The species was first described as Diplacodes paraguayensis in 1904 by foresters using an animal from Costa Aquaray .
