The Archbishop's Chair Munich and Freising is a public corporation and an independent ecclesiastical legal entity under canon law with its seat in Munich .

It has its roots in the Episcopal See in Freising , one of the assets serving the administration and maintenance of the Bishop of Freising.

Archbishop Reinhard Marx issued the statute of the Archbishop's See with effect from August 15, 2016. According to § 7 of the statute, the economist of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising performs the office of economist of the Archbishop's Chair with the help of the Archbishop's Chamber of Finance.

The Maria am Berg Church in Berchtesgaden belongs to the Archbishop's See, which is why the renovations are financed by him.
