The Escher Lakes are two adjacent quarry ponds in the Cologne district of Esch / Auweiler in North Rhine-Westphalia . They were created from gravel in the 1950s to 1980s.
Location and description
The two lakes are located in the northwest of Cologne between the districts of Pesch and Esch / Auweiler. While the northern lake is open to the public and has been used as an outdoor swimming pool since 1988, the southern lake is fenced and fished by a fishing club.
The total area of the Escher Lakes is 28.2 hectares (north: 16.2 hectares, south: 12 hectares). The maximum depth is reached with 18 m in the southern lake, while the Escher lake north is at most 16 m deep.
