Donkey pearls

Ass beads or khar-moreh are small clay balls, which in the Orient as a good luck charm donkeys and horses into the bridle and mane braided.

The turquoise-blue glaze of the classic donkey pearls in Persia remained a secret of the potters for a long time and has its origin in the Egyptian faience with sintered quartz. It is created by cementing during heating in an investment made of soda , quartz , calcite and copper chloride or copper carbonate . In addition, they are related to the Egyptian glass production in the pottery district of al-Fustat in old Cairo at the time of the Fatimids .

Today donkey beads are used to make jewelry.
