Esico (Schleswig)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Esico (also Ekkehard ; † 1026 ) was bishop of the Danish diocese of Schleswig .

Life

According to Adam von Bremen, Esico was consecrated as Bishop of Schleswig by Archbishop Libentius I of Hamburg , between 988 and 1013, as the successor to Poppo . A list of Schleswig bishops from the 11th century, however, did not start office until 1015.

He was probably the bishop Ekkehard of Schleswig, who appeared in some documents in the empire since 1000. The Hildesheim Annals reported the death of Bishop Ekkehardus of Schleswig for the year 1026. This corresponds to the date on the list of bishops. A Hildesheim necrology also commemorated a Schleswig bishop Ekkehardus on the XI. Non. Aug

Bishop Eziko von Oldenburg, who resided as the third bishop around 983, was possibly identical with him.
