Espel is the smallest district in the municipality of Recke . It is located in the southern municipality on the border with the neighboring municipality of Mettingen.

geography

Espel is located south of the center of Recke and east of the Steinbeck district of Recker. The Mettinger district of Schlickelde borders in the east and the Ibbenbüren district of Bockraden in the south. The Mühlenbach flows from the Ibbenbürener Bergplatte past the settlement area in the direction of the Recker Aa . The Recker Aa flows from Mettingen through the eastern part of Espel and crosses under the Mittelland Canal with a culvert here .

Infrastructure

The brickworks Recke of the ABC clinker group are located in the district. The Vossbeck sawmill is also located in the local area. The Don Bosco School in Espel is a special needs school with a focus on intellectual development.

Former stop on the Tecklenburger Nordbahn

Landstrasse 599 runs through the district, coming from Hopsten in the direction of Osnabrück. The Tecklenburger Nordbahn also runs through Espel. Until the cessation of passenger traffic on the railway line, the Oberspel stop was in the district. With the planned reactivation of the railway line, the stop could also go back into operation. To the north in the direction of Recke, the Mittelland Canal runs partially through the area of ​​the district.
