Obersteinbeck is a part of the municipality of Recke . It is in the Tecklenburger Land region of the Steinfurt district . 1657 inhabitants live in Obersteinbeck.

The place was created as a settlement in the 1950s. The relocation of the permanent milk works "Immergut" Dr. Löchel in 1962 from Ibbenbüren station to Obersteinbeck brought many jobs to the town. The permanent milk plant had been taken over by the Hochwald company from Thalfang in 1953 . In the mid-1980s, the plant was closed due to the relocation of production to Thalfang. Today a large part of the population works in the Ibbenbüren mine and in the surrounding communities.

Educational institutions

primary school

A primary school existed in Obersteinbeck until summer 2018. Due to the falling number of students, it was closed in the summer of 2018. The school was built on its site in 1943. The school was expanded in 1961/62 and between 1997 and 1999. Since the closure, primary school students from Obersteinbeck have been taught in Steinbeck.

School at the Kälberberg

The school at Kälberberg was the first school in Obersteinbeck to be built in 1909 . It was inaugurated by Pastor Lefert on April 1, 1910. The school, which was much too small after a few years, was to be replaced by a new school building from 1938. After the foundation stone was laid on April 28, 1938, the building work dragged on due to a lack of building materials until the inauguration on April 18, 1943. After the war, the school at Kälberberg was used again briefly as a school due to the large number of students. Today the old school on Kälberberg is used as a residential building.
