The Kälberberg is a 90.6 m high mountain in Recker district Obersteinbeck . It protrudes from the Ibbenbürener Karbonhorst ( Ibbenbürener Bergplatte ) as a forward tip . In good weather you can see the Ankumer Höhe from the slope of the mountain .

Quarry on Kälberberg

Due to a quarry, its tip has meanwhile disappeared. In this quarry, the red Ibbenbüren sandstone of the Westfal D carbon layer sequence is extracted. This is the only mining company that mines this red Ibbenbüren sandstone. The rest of the Ibbenbürener sandstone is yellowish in color. Slate is also mined for brickworks. The quarry began with the construction of the Mittelland Canal in 1906. This leads right past him. The former waterways office quarry was later sold to a private company. There are numerous stories about the Tecklenburger Land surrounding the Kälberberg . Among other things, the story of the Holy Sea ends here.
