Gerald is a male given name of Germanic origin. The female form is Geraldine .

Origin and meaning

When Gerald is a - possibly Romanesque influenced - variation of the name Gerold . The name originally to be applied as Gerwald is composed of Old High German or Old Saxon ger “Speer” (from Proto-European * gaizaz ; cf. the Scandinavian name Geir ) and Ahd.
