Lake in the Heiliges Meer nature reserve - Heupen |
The Little Holy Sea is a still water in the nature reserve Heiliges Meer - Heupen .
At around 2000 years old, it is the oldest and smallest of the four lakes in the nature reserve. Like the sinkhole lake and the Great Holy Sea , it was created by a sinkhole. It is a little further east of the three other large bodies of water and has only been a nature reserve for a few years. It is surrounded by the wet meadows of the Heupen - a farming community from Obersteinbeck . A special feature is that it is the only body of water in the nature reserve that is still privately owned. It is the only body of water in the nature reserve that lies entirely within the territory of the municipality of Recke in the Tecklenburger Land . The sea basin flows past just west of the lake.
