history
The EC Noroeste, often just called "Noroeste", was founded as Sport Club Noroeste on September 1, 1910 , on the same day as Corinthians São Paulo , one of the most popular football clubs in Brazil . In 1943 they won the Campeonato do Interior , which was the most prestigious tournament in the state of São Paulo at the time. In 1948 it became a professional team.
1953 took part for the first time in the state championship of São Paulo . Until 1966, the club played with the star players Julião , Toninho Guerreiro and Zé Carlos against the best clubs in São Paulo. After that, Noroeste managed to rise and fall again and again with the top players Jairzinho and Lorico until the 1980s . In 1978 they played in the national first division, the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol .
The 1990s were the worst time in the club's history; one rose twice (1994 and 1999) to the Série A3 . In 2005 the club rose again to the A1 Série with its star players Lenilson and Rodrigo Tiuí . In 2006, the EC Noroeste finished fifth at the national championship, which was the club's best placement in the club's history.
