The Essener FV 1912 (officially: Essener Fußballverein 1912 eV ) was a sports club from Essen . The first soccer team took part in the DFB Cup once.

history

In 1903 the Segeroth gymnastics club was founded. This set up a football department in 1912, which became independent as Essen FV 1912 in 1921 as part of the clean divorce . In terms of sport, the team did not get beyond the third highest division before the Second World War . After the war ended, the Essenes were among the founding members of the Ruhr district class in 1946 , from which they had to relegate in 1948. After the direct resurgence, the Essenes were fourth in 1950, before the team in 1953 had to go down to the district class again. The ascent did not succeed until 1963.

In 1971, the Essen qualified for the DFB Cup and met in the first round of the 1. FC Köln . In that season, the games were played for the first time in two legs. The Essen team lost the first leg in their own place with 1: 9, while the Cologne team won the second leg with 5: 0. At the end of the season, the team made it to the Landesliga Niederrhein , where the Essenes made it through to the Association League Niederrhein , the highest amateur league at the time, in the 1972/73 season . As a knocked-off bottom of the table, the direct relegation followed and in the following season 1974/75 the Essen FV was passed back to the district class. In terms of sport, the club did not get beyond the lower divisions and in 1998 joined the FC Saloniki Essen, which was founded in 1965 by Greek immigrants .
