Essen's best is an award of 5000 euros from the youth welfare office of the city ​​of Essen for young people from Essen. Since 2004, individuals or groups residing in Essen who have achieved something special have been honored.

procedure

Anyone between 14 and 27 years of age can be proposed or propose themselves. There are seven different categories. For each category, a jury made up of representatives from politics, business, the media, celebrities and experts selects four nominations per category from all suggestions received. The winners will be announced at a large gala in the Philharmonie Essen . The current mayor of the city of Essen, Reinhard Pass , is the patron . The winners each receive a sculpture "Essens Beste", a certificate and a cash prize of 5000 euros. The other nominees will receive high quality material prizes.

Categories

Awards are made in the following categories:

  • Student Prize honors Essen's best students
  • Apprenticeship prize , a prize from Essen's economy, honors Essen's best apprentices or students
  • Siemens AG honorary award honors people from Essen who do something special in honorary positions in communities, associations, etc.
  • Handicap Prize , donated by E.ON Ruhrgas AG, honors Essen residents who, despite their disabilities or difficult living conditions, are capable of extraordinary things
  • Art Prize honors young Essen artists in all possible fields such as music, film and painting
  • Sports Prize of the Sparkasse Essen honors athletes from Essen who have earned themselves through top performance or fairness
  • The National Bank's Innovation Prize honors people from Essen who have had new ideas in business, culture or society
