Estêvão Cacella

Estêvão Cacella (* 1585 in Avis ; † 1630 in Tibet ) was a Jesuit missionary from Portugal .

On his missions in Asia he came to the Himalayas . He was the first European in Bhutan . He met Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel there and stayed in the country for about eight months. His detailed letter from the Cheri Monastery to his superiors, in which he reported on the progress of his stay, are considered the only Western records of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel.
