history
The Estadio Centenario Dr. José Luis Meiszner in Quilmes , a city in the province of Buenos Aires in eastern Argentina , was built in 1995 and opened on April 25th of that year. For the first game in the new stadium, the future tenant of the stadium, Quilmes AC , and the top Uruguayan club Nacional Montevideo met for a friendly game. In the end it was 2-1 for the host. Since that day, the Quilmes AC club has been hosting its home games here. Quilmes managed to win the Argentine soccer championship once in its club history (Metropolitano 1978). In addition, the club won the title of the second division in Argentina, the Nacional B, five times . Quilmes AC currently plays in the Primera División , the top division in Argentine football, after they had made a perfect recovery in the 2009/10 season.
The Estadio Centenario Dr. José Luis Meiszner, named after José Luis Meiszner, the current President of Quilmes AC, offers space for 30,200 spectators, although the capacity for renovation work was increased to the current figure just three years after the stadium was completed. Of these 30,200 spectator seats, 26,000 are seated and the remaining 4,200 are standing.
