Refugi d'Estanys Forcats, 100 meters from the lake

Estanys Forcats denotes two mountain lakes in the Principality of Andorra .

Forcat means pitchfork in German . The connected lakes ( Catalan : Estanys ) are located in the municipality of La Massana at 2,650 meters above sea level in the immediate vicinity of the Spanish border. The highest point in the lake area is the Pic de Sanfonts mountain with a height of 2,882 meters. The two lakes are fed by unnamed springs and meltwater and are connected by a small watercourse. The lake water flows in a north-south direction over the river Riu del Bancal Vedeller and flows into the Riu del Pla de l'Estany . In the immediate vicinity of the lake there is a small refuge for fishermen and mountain hunters.

The GR11 hiking trail (variant 11.1) runs along the lake area . This route heads west towards the Estanys de Baiau refuge , on the Spanish border, and east towards the Refugio Pla de l'Estany refuge . The refuges ( Catalan: Refugio ) are open all year round.
