Esther Rochon
Esther Rochon (born June 27, 1948 in Québec as Esther Blackburn) is a French-Canadian writer of fantasy and science fiction literature.
Life
Rochon was born into a family of artists: Her mother is the screenwriter Marthe Blackburn , her father the composer Maurice Blackburn . She studied mathematics at the University of Montreal .
In 1964 Rochon won her first award for the short story L'Initiateur et les étrangers . Five years later she was one of the co-founders of the Canadian SF magazine Imagine ... , which she co-edited until 1971. In 1974 her Cycle de Vrénalik started with The Dreamer in the Citadel . This has been revised several times and published under different names.
In her home country she is one of the most important genre writers. She is the four-time winner of the Grand Prix de la Science-Fiction et du Fantastique Québécois .
