The states of Estonia and São Tomé and Príncipe have had bilateral relations since 2009 .

history

Estonia declared itself independent in 1918 and regained independence in 1991. São Tomé and Principe gained independence from Portugal in 1975 .

During the first phase of Estonian independence, from 1918 to 1940, Estonia had diplomatic relations with Portugal, including a trade treaty.

In 2009 the two countries finally began to establish diplomatic relations. The Estonian and São Tomé ambassadors in Portugal signed a joint communiqué. São Tomé and Principe hopes to have more tourists from Estonia

Freedom to Travel

Estonian travelers to São Tomé and Principe do not need a visa if their stay in the country is shorter than 15 days.

Cultural relations

The Estonian filmmaker Kris Haamer released the film Tomé in 2011, which is about an artist group in São Tomé and Principe.
