Estrada de Ferro Macaé e Campos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Estrada de Ferro Macaé e Campos was a railway line that lay in the north of what is now the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro . The railway company was established by law on November 19, 1869 to build a railway line. In 1870 the company received the concession to operate for 50 years between the port of Imbetiba near Macaé , which at that time was of national importance (fifth largest port in Brazil) and Campos dos Goytacazes . The first 33 km long section between Imbetiba and Carapebus (which Macaé crossed) had a track width of 0.95 meters and was inaugurated on August 10, 1874. On July 13, 1875, the section followed with a total length of 96.5 km. Before the railway line was taken over by the Estrada de Ferro Leopoldina railway company after 1880 , it took over the Companhia Ferro-Carril Niteroiense railway company, which operated the Niterói - Rio Bonito line under the name Ferrovia do Litoral, and the small Estrada de Ferro Santo railway company in 1888 Antônio de Pádua.
