Estrella Durá Ferrandis

Estrella Durá Ferrandis (born September 22, 1963 in Puçol ) is a Spanish politician ( PSOE ), member of the European Parliament and psychology professor at the University of Valencia .

In 2019 she was elected to the European Parliament ( 9th legislative period ), where she is a member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Social Democrats .

Life

Estrella Durá graduated from the University of Valencia with a degree in psychology in 1986 and a doctorate in 1989. In 2004 she received her degree in clinical psychology .

She has been a researcher at the Research Institute for Social Policy at the University of Valencia since 2006, and in 2017 she received a professorship at the Faculty of Psychology. During this time she spent several research stays at universities and research centers in the USA, Great Britain, Austria and the Netherlands.

Estrella Durá is an expert in social policy programs to improve the quality of life and social situation of vulnerable population groups. Her main areas of work include: unemployment among young people and people over 55 years of age, women's health, the chronically ill and migrants.

Estrella Durá was a founding member of several psycho-social associations in Spain. Today she is a member of ENSA (European Network of Social Authorities) and ELISAN (European Local Inclusion & Social Action Network).

Election and activity in the European Parliament

Estrella Durá was in 21st place on the PSOE's list of candidates for the 2019 European elections. As the party only received 20 seats, it failed to make it into the European Parliament for the time being. Only when the party's top candidate, Josep Borrell - meanwhile High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy - resigned from his seat did it move up.

In the European Parliament she is a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) and an alternate member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI). She is a member of the delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly and deputy member of the delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia.
