Establishment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An establishment ( French établissement [ establish [s (ə) ˈmãː ], Swiss: [… ˈmɛnt]) is a business , a branch , an institution or a company . It also denotes a smaller (elegant) restaurant ; also a place of amusement as well as a (dubious) (night) bar or ( covering ) a brothel .

Establishment for "company, branch, entertainment facility" was taken over from the French in the 18th century. As early as the 17th century, to establish ' to found', 'erect' or reflexively 'to settle down ' was borrowed from the French établir ' to fasten', 'to set up'. It is based on the Latin stabilīre 'fasten', derived from stabilis 'firmly', 'fixed' (see stable) and related to the Latin stāre ' to stand'.

In Meyer's Large Conversation Lexicon of 1911 it says:

"Establishment, establishment, establishment of a branch, especially a commercial branch; the latter itself is also called an establishment. The establishment does not have an independent legal personality, but often has an independent name (establishment name), e.g. B. To the black whale. This is not subject to the rights of the company, but it is protected against business abuse by § 15 of the law for the protection of trademarks and by § 8 of the competition law. "
