Ettlinger bars

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ettlinger Riegel was built as part of the West Wall in 1936 and 1937. The line of defense extends over a distance of around 10 kilometers from the east bank of the Rhine near Rheinstetten south of Karlsruhe to Malsch on the northern edge of the Black Forest . The position blocked off the entire eastern Rhine valley to the south. It was equipped with bunkers , tank obstacles and water trenches to ward off an enemy from the southwest.

After the end of the Second World War , numerous structures were blown up or filled with earth, but the remains can still be visited.

The last bunker line in a northerly direction (near the Karlsruhe city limits) was built into the former fortifications of the Ettlinger line , as their earth walls were still there and could therefore be used for field fortifications.
