Something little polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Something Small Polka is a French Polka by Johann Strauss Sohn ( op.190 ). The work was performed for the first time on May 3, 1857 in Ungers Casino in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was premiered shortly before Johann Strauss left for his second trip to Russia. It was a spontaneous composition triggered by the success of the play of the same name by the writer Friedrich Kaiser (1814–1874). His play Something Small was premiered with great success on April 27, 1857 in the Carltheater in Leopoldstadt. Strauss was evidently inspired by this and his Polka was premiered on May 3rd. He also took her on the aforementioned trip to Russia, where she was well received by the local audience.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 32 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
