Olga polka

The Olga-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 196). The work was first performed in Pavlovsk , Russia , in the summer of 1857 .

Remarks

In the summer of 1857, as in the previous year, Johann Strauss returned to Pawlosk in Russia. In August, Grand Duke Michael (1832–1909), the youngest brother of Tsar Alexander II, married Cecilia von Baden (1839–1891) at the Tsar's court . Johann Strauss composed this polka for the occasion and initially called it Caecilien-Polka . But since the bride changed her name to Olga Fjodorovna , the Viennese composer was forced to rename the polka as well. This is how the cecilia polka became the Olga polka . The exact date of the premiere is not known. However, it must have been performed for the first time around August 28, 1857, the wedding anniversary of the princely couple.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 42 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
