The moths of Euchalcia taurica reach a wingspan of 28 to 34 millimeters. The forewing tops are colored in different shades of brown. The midfield is darkened. Near the inner corner there is a large red-brown spot that continues in an arc and ends undivided in a square shape in the middle of the hem. The double outer transverse line ends next to the cell . The monk's herb metal owl ( Euchalcia consona ) shows next to the ring blemish also a small, whitish-framed kidney blemish. In this species, the double outer transverse line extends to the apex. The large square dark brown spot in the fringe area of the forewings is clearly cut through by the whitish submarginal line from the dark brown area at the inner corner.
Distribution and occurrence
Euchalcia taurica occurs in Asia Minor and Iran . In Iran, it is found primarily at altitudes between 1600 and 2800 meters.
Way of life
The moths fly in one generation from April to July. The way of life of the caterpillars of Euchalcia taurica , Euchalcia consona and Euchalcia emichi are almost identical. All three species live in spun together tip shoots and inflorescences of the cupwort ( Nonea pulla ).
