The Euchalcia Consona ( Euchalcia consona ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of cutworms (Noctuidae).

features

The monk's weed metal owl is a medium-sized butterfly with a wingspan of 30 to 36 millimeters from the subfamily of gold owls (Plusiinae). The forewings are colored in various gray and brown tones. The midfield is darkened. There are large, brown, angular spots near the outer edge. The ring flaws and the tenon flaw that adjoins it as an extension are outlined in silver. The gray-brown hind wings are darkened on the outer edge. There is a dense tuft of hair on the head of the butterfly. The body is furry and has other smaller tufts of hair.

The caterpillars are blue-green in color and have a poorly developed, light back line and side stripes. The pupa is greenish in color, blackish on the back and has an elongated sheath.

Distribution and occurrence

The monk's herb metal owl occurs mainly in Eastern European areas, from Austria to Hungary , Siberia to the Urals . The species prefers warm, dry places, such as steppe areas, warm slopes and wastelands.

Way of life and development

The moths fly in two generations, in May and June and in August and September. The caterpillars live from May to early July or from late July to mid-August. The leaves of monk's weed ( Nonea pulla ), wolf's eye ( Anchusa arvensis ) and lungwort species ( Pulmonaria ) serve as fodder plants. They pupate in a dense, white web. The species overwinters as an egg.

Danger

The species occurs very rarely in Germany and is listed in the Red List of Threatened Species under Category 1 (threatened with extinction).
