Eucleides (Archon)

Eukleides ( ancient Greek Εὐκλείδης ) was used for the year 403/402 BC. Elected eponymos for the Athenian Archon .

In his year in office, the Ionic alphabet was introduced in Athens at the request of Archinos . As a result of Athens' cultural supremacy, this alphabet variant subsequently became the standard and replaced other, epichoric alphabets . Inscriptions written before the introduction of the Ionic alphabet in Athens are said to be pre-Euclidean. But with the use of pre-Euclidean spellings it is still possible to around 360 BC. BC, so that the term of office of the Euclid is relevant for dating primarily for Attic inscriptions in the Ionic alphabet, but does not represent a certain terminus ante quem for the so-called pre-Euclidean inscriptions.
