Euphorbia melitensis is a plant from the family of the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae). It is found exclusively in Malta.
description
Euphorbia melitensis is a densely growing subshrub that usually reaches heights of up to 0.5 meters, rarely up to 1 meter. Spring is in bloom. The plants are dioecious , the small and inconspicuous flowers arranged in the characteristic cyathium are surrounded by light yellow bracts . The fruit is a triple-lobed, spiny capsule .
distribution
Euphorbia melitensis is only native to Malta , in the local garrigues . It is common and a preferred host of the Quendel silk ( Cuscuta epithymum ).
Systematics and botanical history
The species was first described by Filippo Parlatore in 1869 , it is occasionally assigned to Euphorbia spinosa .
