Euranet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Euranet is a European radio network, an association of international, national, regional and local European radio stations and, according to its own statements, informs what is happening in Europe not from a national, but from a transnational perspective.

Since the beginning of April 2008, Euranet has been broadcasting its joint programs as part of the programs of the participating broadcasters. The programs and special offers are also available on the Internet.

history

On July 25, 2007, 16 international, national and regional European broadcasters from 13 EU countries merged to form a pan-European media consortium. It owned both public and private broadcasters. The aim of the alliance was to improve reporting from and about Europe, to initiate communication about living together in Europe and thus to promote the creation of a European public .

The European media consortium Euranet was officially presented in Brussels on February 26, 2008 by Margot Wallström , then Vice-President of the European Commission. Margot Wallström, Commissioner responsible for institutional relations and communication strategy, announced that Euranet would be financially supported by the European Commission with a total of 5.8 million euros over a period of five years. Despite financial support, the EU Commission guaranteed the affiliated broadcasters complete editorial independence.

In the first year, Euranet's programs were broadcast in five main languages - German, English, French, Polish and Spanish - and, on a smaller scale, in five other languages - Bulgarian, Greek, Portuguese, Romanian and Hungarian. In 2009, Euranet was available in 13 languages. The aim of Euranet is to broadcast in all 23 official EU languages by 2012.
