Eurasia International Film Festival

The Eurasia International Film Festival (Eurasiaiff) ( Russian Кинофестиваля "Евразия" ) is the largest international film festival in Kazakhstan . The last time it took place was September 21-25, 2010 in the former Kazakh capital of Almaty .

history

The Eurasia International Film Festival first took place in Almaty in 1998 with the support of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Baltic States . The original plan was that the festival would take place in a different city in the former Soviet Union each year. The program consisted of feature films , documentaries and animated films from the participating countries.

After seven years, the Eurasia International Film Festival was held for the second time from September 26th to October 2nd, 2005. The festival was under the patronage of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the national film producer Kazachfilm . Productions from Europe , Asia and America were shown. The festival has already had more than 40,000 visitors.

The third film festival took place in 2006. This time, in addition to the films from Europe and the CIS, films from Central Asian countries were also shown. In 2007 78 films from 22 countries were submitted.

In 2008 the Eurasia International Film Festival did not take place in Almaty, but was relocated to the capital Astana on the occasion of the anniversary "10 years of the capital of Kazakhstan" . For the first time, the main focus of the festival was on films from Central Asia.

The sixth festival took place in September 2010. Films from Kazakhstan, Turkey, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan were shown.
