Eurochemic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eurochemic was a nuclear fuel reprocessing facility operated from 1967 to 1974 in Mol , Belgium . In this plant, a joint project of 13 member states of the OECD , a total of around 180 t of fuel from power reactors and 30 t of highly enriched fuel from material test reactors were processed.

Recommissioning was considered at times, but was finally rejected at the end of 1986 due to a lack of interest from foreign partners in participating. The plant was then increasingly transferred to the Belgian state. In 1985, responsibility for the existing systems was transferred to a new company, Belgoprocess . The company Ondraf (in Flemish : Niras ) is responsible for the decontamination and decommissioning work. Belgoprocess is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of ONDRAF / NIRAS. The dismantling of the facilities began in 1991, the demolition of the main process building should begin in 2002.
