The European Society for Early Modern Philosophy e. V. , English European Society for Early Modern Philosophy (ESEMP), is a philosophical society that researches the entire epoch of the early modern period and thus examines the partial epochs of late scholasticism , renaissance , humanism , reformation and early enlightenment in their overall European context. You belong to scientists from different nations. The ESEMP sees itself as a philosophical and at the same time interdisciplinary oriented forum for research into the early modern period.

Objectives and areas of responsibility

The European Society of Early Modern Philosophy / European Society for Early Modern Philosophy (ESEMP) eV is an international association of scientists and scientific institutions.

According to its statutes, the ESEMP sees itself as an “independent European forum” that pursues the purpose of researching early modern European philosophy in the holistic context of its national and regional lines of tradition and promoting the study of this era in a European context. To this end, it seeks to unite the impulses of national research. The company attaches great importance to interdisciplinary cooperation.

In order to promote the internationality of the ESEMP, its presidency changes every three years to a different European country; the international ESEMP congress is also held there. The legal seat of ESEMP is Hagen, Germany. One of the ESEMP's offices is in the Philosophy I department at the Distance University in Hagen.

The European Society for Early Modern Philosophy eV (ESEMP) was founded on November 6, 2004 in Hagen. The initiative came from the Department of Philosophy I at the FernUniversität in Hagen.

With the establishment of the new research society, the founding members of the ESEMP linked the goal of strengthening historical awareness within academic philosophy.
