European Vegetarian Union
The European Vegetarian Union (EVU) is an umbrella organization for vegetarian associations and groups in Europe and works in the areas of vegetarianism , nutrition , health , consumer protection , the fight against hunger in the world , animal rights , ecology and general information. The organization is based in Winterthur , Switzerland .
The main activities are:
- to support the member associations and to represent them at European level and to offer them a platform for cooperation,
- to publicize and promote the vegetarian way of life, vegetarian concerns and the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle,
- to advocate that governments, European institutions and organizations give greater consideration to vegetarian concerns in political decisions
- to further promote the successful "V-Label project" in the interests of vegetarian and vegan consumers across Europe. The V-Label is a uniform quality seal of the EVU for labeling vegetarian products and services.
The EVU wants to support vegetarian organizations in Europe and bring them closer together, especially in countries where the vegetarian idea has not yet developed.
The connection between the various member organizations is particularly promoted by the EVU magazine European Vegetarian . It appears twice a year and reports on events, news, trends, developments, initiatives and activities for people living with vegetarians.
Also important are the opportunities to get to know vegetarians from Europe personally and to exchange thoughts and experiences, to offer each other support and to build relationships between the associations. International meetings and events at which the latest developments and research results can be discussed in lectures and workshops are well suited for this purpose.
As a member of the International Vegetarian Union (IVU), EVU is in constant contact with the global vegetarian community.
The organization receives information from important international organizations and media, which enables a good observation of economic, political and social developments.
