It was founded in 1982.

The head office is in Brussels .

history

Wolfgang Bible wanted to found a European organization for artificial intelligence in 1979. In 1982 the first European Conference for Artificial Intelligence (ECAI) took place and shortly afterwards the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence (ECCAI) , which was later renamed the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI) , was founded. The first founding president of ECCAI was Wolfgang Bibel. Wolfgang Bibel founded the two-week AI spring school (KIFS) together with Jörg Siekmann in 1982 , as the subject of artificial intelligence had not yet established itself at that time and the research results had not yet reached the students. In 1985, Bibel then organized the first Advanced Course on AI (ACAI) , the equivalent of KIFS on a European level.

activities

Every year EurAI organizes the European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI) together with one of the member associations of EurAI . The conference has developed into one of the leading conferences for artificial intelligence in Europe. In addition, the Advanced Course on AI (ACAI) takes place every two years , which aims to bring students closer to the topic of artificial intelligence.

Fellowship

The EurAI Fellows program was launched in 1999 and honors people who have made a significant and sustainable contribution to artificial intelligence (AI) in Europe.

Dissertation Award

The Artificial Intelligence Dissertation Award , founded by EurAI, has been presented since 1998 and annually honors the best dissertation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in Europe.
