European Thesaurus for International Relations and Area Studies

The European Thesaurus for International Relations and Area Studies (in short: European Thesaurus) is a thesaurus for the field of International Relations and Area Studies . It is the result of an international terminological cooperation project as part of the European Information Network on International Relations and Area Studies (EINIRAS), edited by Dietrich Seydel (Germany), Susan J. Boyde (UK) and Leszek Cyrzyk (Poland) with the collaboration of 12 others Representatives of European institutes. With the help of the European Thesaurus, specialist publications and other textual materials (e.g. official documents from governments and international organizations, treaty texts, press articles) on international and regional science topics can be described ( indexed ) and retrieved ( retrieval ) in a literature database . The European Thesaurus contains around 8,250 descriptors , which are divided into 24 subject areas. The European Thesaurus is a multilingual thesaurus and includes the languages ​​German, English, French, Italian, Croatian, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Czech. In addition to the descriptors, a large number of non-descriptors are available as access vocabulary for each language version .

The European Thesaurus was published in September 2007 in a seven-language print edition, which consists of a multilingual subject systematic part and seven monolingual alphabetical parts. The European Thesaurus is publicly accessible on the Internet via the specialist portal IREON (International Relations and Area Studies Online). The online version also includes the languages ​​Croatian and Russian and shows the entire semantic relationships of a descriptor (upper, lower and related terms).
