The European Convention on the Legal Status of Migrant Workers deals with the main aspects of the legal status of migrant workers , in particular their recruitment, medical and professional qualification testing, travel, residence permit, work permit, family reunification, working conditions, transfer of savings and transfers of social security rights , social and medical care , Contract expiration, termination and re-employment.

An advisory committee has been set up (Art. 33) to examine reports by the States parties on the application of the Convention. On this basis the Advisory Committee prepares reports for the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
