The European Palace ( French Palais de l'Europe ) is the seat of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg . The Parliamentary Assemblies of the Council of Europe are held here. From 1977 to 1999 the plenary sessions of the European Parliament also took place here. To this day, the European Parliament is connected to the European Palace by a corridor.

The square building (106 meters wide, 38 meters high) was designed by the architect Henry Bernard and inaugurated on January 28, 1977 . The predecessor building was the European House ( Maison de l'Europe ), inaugurated in 1950 , which stood on the spot where the lawn in front of the European Palace is today. The architect of the Europahaus was Bertrand Monnet. The Council of Europe and the European Parliament have shared this building since 1952.

At the place where the European Palace stands today, there has been a tennis court since the 1930s , which also served as an ice rink in winter . The parliament hall is covered by a transparent dome and resembles a huge shell.
