Europaplatz (Ludwigshafen)
The Europe Square is a public square in the center of Ludwigshafen .
It is important because of the settlement of the district administration of the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis (house number 5) as well as the social authority of the city of Ludwigshafen in the so-called " Stadthaus Nord ".
layout
The square was created in connection with the relocation of the former main train station. Originally a viaduct led from here over the railroad tracks from Hemshof to the Mitte district.
The square, inaugurated in 1978, is dominated by public buildings with a representative design. There are no residential buildings below.
A fountain system forms the center of the square. To the north is bounded by the Stadthaus Nord, which was completed in 1913. This castle-like plastered building in neo-classicist forms, built according to the plans of the city building office under the direction of Ernst May , has been preserved almost untouched - with the exception of the lattice windows - and stands in a prominent place in urban planning.
The district administration of the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis (here the street side) closes the Europaplatz to the west. In front of the entrance to the building is a sculpture with the significant title Man in a Circle .
The former station building is now the location of the Rathaus-Center, built in 1977 . It is separated from Europaplatz by a road and an elevated road that borders Europaplatz to the south. |
