Ernst Mecklenburg.

Ernst Mecklenburg (born June 3, 1927 in blocks , Labiau district , East Prussia ) was chairman of the DBD and member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

The father was a farm worker and farmer. Ernst Mecklenburg attended elementary school, completed an agricultural apprenticeship and was a farmer's assistant. From 1943 to 1944 he attended the teacher training college in Memel . Ernst Mecklenburg became a soldier in the Wehrmacht on January 5, 1945 . In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the English.

Mecklenburg was active in agriculture since 1945 and in mining in 1946. On February 1, 1947 he became a Neubauer in Torisdorf ( district of Schönberg ); In 1950 he joined the DBD and the FDJ , was chairman of the Grevesmühlen district board of the DBD and then studied agricultural sciences at the Bernburg University of Agriculture with a degree in agricultural economics.

1950 to 1952 he was mayor of Rehna ( Gadebusch district ), 1952 department head of local politics at DBD state board of Mecklenburg and then department head of agricultural politics. 1953 to 1958 he completed a distance learning course at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam.

From 1954 to 1967 Ernst Mecklenburg was district secretary of the DBD in Rostock . From 1963 to 1990 he was a member of the party executive committee of the DBD and its presidium.

In 1968 Ernst Mecklenburg received his doctorate as Dr. agr. at the University of Agriculture and Food Management in Bernburg (Saale) with a dissertation “on the development of cooperative agricultural production”. From 1968 he was represented on the DBD Presidium. From 1971 to 1987 he was a member of the GDR People's Chamber. From 1967 to 1974 Ernst Mecklenburg was secretary of the party leadership and deputy party chairman. In 1977 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit (VVO) in gold, in 1983 the VVO bar of honor and in 1987 the Karl Marx Order . In 1982 Mecklenburg succeeded the long-time chairman Ernst Goldenbaum in the office of party chairman. In 1987 he resigned for health reasons after heart surgery.
