Günther Edler

Günther Horst Richard Edler (born February 21, 1931 in Hanover ; † January 14, 2020 in Mönchengladbach - Rheydt ) was a German business economist and university rector of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences .

Life

Edler studied business administration after completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter and graduated with a degree in business administration. In 1967 he became a lecturer at the state higher business school in Mönchengladbach. With the reorganization from 1971 to the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, he became a professor of business administration, in particular organizational theory and commercial management, as well as business informatics. In 1980 he succeeded founding rector Karlheinz Brocks as rector of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences until 1990. During his tenure as rector, the number of students doubled to over 10,000 students and the dual study program was introduced. In 1993 he retired, but was active as a lecturer at the university until 2006.

Günther Edler was also involved in the Hochschullehrerbund (hlb) , a professional association for professors at universities of applied sciences / universities of applied sciences. He was also the editor of the association's magazine “Die neue Hochschule”.
