European Association of Vertebrate Palaeontologists

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Association of Vertebrate Palaeontologists (EAVP) is a society for the advancement of vertebrate paleontology in Europe.

society

The European Association of Vertebrate Palaeontologists (EAVP) was founded in 2003 as a society for those interested in vertebrate paleontology. It emerged from the European Workshop on Vertebrate Palaeontology. The EAVP has over 100 members, the majority of whom are vertebrate paleontologists.

EAVP sees itself as a forum for paleontologists in a traditionally multilingual and multicultural area, and defines "Europe" not politically, but geographically and culturally. From a legal point of view, EAVP is a registered association in Germany.

aims

The goals of the EAVP are

  • the establishment and support of international projects with European participation in the field of vertebrate paleontology,
  • the support of students in participating in such projects to guarantee the next generation of vertebrate paleontologists in Europe
  • to provide financial means for this yourself or to organize it from European foundations and other sponsors,
  • to maintain a plurality of methods,
  • To promote contacts and collaborations between European vertebrate palaeontologists by organizing an EAVP workshop in a different European country every year as a continuation of the European Workshop on Vertebrate Palaeontology.

Workshops

Every year the EAVP organizes a workshop in a different European country. For the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin , the EAVP also held an additional workshop at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels.

Publications

The official journal of the EAVP is Oryctos , a peer- reviewed journal that publishes articles in French and English on all areas of vertebrate paleontology and comparative anatomy, as well as articles on the history of this research discipline. In addition, a volume with the abstracts of the presentations will be published for each workshop.
