European Climate Exchange

The European Climate Exchange (ECX) was founded in Amsterdam in 2005 and is currently the world's largest futures exchange for trading in CO 2 certificates .

The company and its sister company Chicago Climate Exchange are owned by Climate Exchange Plc , a holding company listed on the AIM of the London Stock Exchange  (LSE). The company is led by Patrick Birley.

The investment fund GIM, led by Al Gore and David Blood, owns 2.98% of the shares in the Chicago Climate Exchange , the American futures exchange for emissions trading , which in turn holds half of the European Climate Exchange.
