The European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG) is an association of equipment manufacturers for food production , food processing companies, research institutes and public health institutions as a foundation. It was founded in 1989 with the aim of supporting hygiene measures during the production and packaging of food.

The EHEDG is a Dutch foundation with its headquarters in Frankfurt am Main . It consists of a board of directors, working and regional groups. A president is elected by the board for three years and represents the foundation externally. The regional groups correspond to national representations within the EHEDG. With the help of external experts, the working groups develop guidelines on various food hygiene issues, which are then available to members.

The implementation of various EU directives on the handling, processing and packaging of food is the responsibility of the individual companies. The purpose of the merger to form the EHEDG is to develop assistance for companies in implementing the legal requirements, as well as to enable an EU-wide, uniform concept of action in compliance with international and national regulations. The assistance is discussed and published in the form of guidelines.

The EHEDG is involved in global exchange about such specifications. B. in exchange with American organizations such as NSF and 3-A in order to work out and mutually adapt structures of action on an international level.

EHEDG offers machine builders and component suppliers the opportunity to have their products assessed and certified according to the hygienic design requirements. There are different types here.
