European Optical Society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Optical Society (EOS) is a non-profit association that operates on a European level. The EOS was founded on May 24, 1991, unites scientific societies as members. The club is based in Paris .

Goals, purpose of the association

The association promotes scientific progress in the field of optical technologies and related sciences, as well as their application at European and international level by networking the actors in this field of technology. EOS serves as a platform for all scientists, companies, organizations, educational institutions and other professional associations who want to further develop optical technologies and their fields of application in Europe.

Main activities

  • Organization of topical meetings, workshops and conferences as well as co-sponsoring of other scientific events in the field of optical technologies
  • Specialist groups for the most diverse fields of application of optical technologies (e.g. imaging methods, terahertz technologies, micro-optics, optical measurement technology, training and further education, etc.)
  • Publication of the online journal
  • Publication of an electronic and a print newsletter (the latter is published in the magazine “Optics & Laser Europe (OLE)”)
  • Lobbying at European level (technology platform Photonics21, Phorce21)
  • Annual award of the EOS Prize as well as the European THz Young Investigator Awards for young scientists

membership

The association has approximately 6500 members, including national optical societies, institutes, universities, companies, and individual and student members.
