The European Students' Conference (ESC) is currently the largest biomedical conference for young researchers and medical students as well as alumni and postgraduates in Europe. The ESC is one of the largest student-led conferences of its kind worldwide and offers a high scientific level. It has been held annually at the Charité University Medicine in Berlin since 1989 . The overall theme of this year's conference is “Future Aging - Today's Research, Tomorrow's Medicine”.

development

Founded in 1989, the European Students' Conference has developed into one of the main events of the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. With the original idea of creating a better relationship between East and West Berlin and enabling scientific exchange in a time of major political changes, it became a joint conference of the Berlin medical faculties after reunification in October 1990. One of the main concerns of the ESC is the promotion of young scientists in the medical and biomedical fields as well as the linking of the biomedical sciences, faculties and students on an international level.

program

The program is divided into three areas: lectures by international scientific and medical representatives (Nobel Prize winners, professors, doctors, researchers), cross-disciplinary workshops and sessions in which more than 250 research projects, broken down by subject area, are presented and awarded annually. The conference receives an annual focus of its lectures, which is eponymous for the respective conference, but in no way restricts the variety of the more than 40 subject areas represented in the sessions and workshops. In particular, the conference serves for the interaction of

  • Students of human, dental and veterinary medicine and related disciplines
  • young and experienced scientists
  • Newcomers and the public
  • University medicine, pharmaceutical industry and economy
  • young scientists and students of human, dental and veterinary medicine who are interested in doing research in Germany
  • young scientists and students of human, dental and veterinary medicine who are interested in researching in international projects at the Charité

aims

It is a platform for scientific exchange, training and multicultural interaction. The focus is particularly on high scientific quality and training. Students of medicine , dentistry and related disciplines are given the opportunity to present their research results, to make contact with young and experienced scientists, to listen to lectures by renowned researchers and to exchange ideas with representatives from business , research and medicine. In addition, the ESC opens up the possibility of finding out about working and research conditions nationally and worldwide and offers the opportunity to establish contact between interested researchers and potential employers.
