Eurosif

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Sustainable Investment Forum , or Eurosif for short , is a Europe-wide organization for the promotion of ethical investment based in Brussels . Eurosif is an association of national sustainable investment fora (SIF), which comprises over 400 Europe-based members. The member organizations come from the sustainability value chain and include institutional investors, asset managers, financial service providers, index providers and ESG (environmental, social and governmental) research and analysis companies. Eurosif is financed through grants from public authorities, such as the European Commission , and membership fees.

The organization publishes questionnaire-based studies on ethical investment every two years. The studies track the growth of the European ethical investment market and cover thirteen European markets. These are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The approximately three hundred institutions that filled out the questionnaires and returned them to Eurosif in 2018 manage around twenty trillion euros , which corresponds to around 80% of all assets under management in Europe.

Classification of ethical investment approaches

The organization distinguishes between seven approaches to implementing ethical investment:

  1. Sustainability themed investments
  2. Best-in-class investment selection
  3. Exclusion of holdings from investment universe
  4. norms-based screening
  5. Integration of ESG factors in financial analysis
  6. Engagement and voting on sustainability matters
  7. Impact Investment (Impact investing)

Other organizations such as the High-Level Expert Group on Sustainable Finance use similar, but sometimes slightly different, classifications for ethical investment .
