Joseph "Joe" Boyden (born February 12, 1929 in Willenhall ) is a former English football player .

Career

Boyden joined Walsall FC as an amateur from the local YMCA in 1946 , signed a part-time professional contract in December 1948 and continued to work as a factory worker. In the early stages of the 1952/53 season , he formed the defenders pair with Norman Rowe in four games in the Third Division South . In his debut against the Bristol Rovers (final score 3: 5) he met Jack Pitt on a former classmate on the opposing team. The three other missions also ended in defeats (overall goal ratio 6:17). At the end of the season, as in the previous year, Walsall finished last in the table and had to stand for re-election to remain in the league.

Boyden left the club at the end of the season and probably continued to play in the Birmingham & District League , in which he had already played with Walsall's reserve team, first for Brierley Hill Alliance and then for the Bloxwich Strollers . In July 2013 Boyden was present at a friendly between Walsall and Aston Villa , which was played on the occasion of the club's 125th anniversary of Walsall; He also took part in FC Walsall's Former Players Day in April 2017 and April 2019 .
