Willenhall [ wɪɔllˌhɔːl ] is a town of about 28,000 inhabitants in the West Midlands in England . It belongs to the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall and lies between Walsall and Wolverhampton on the River Tame .
history
In the eighth century the place was first mentioned as Willenhalch in a treaty of King Æthelbald of Mercia . It was not until the 18th century that the place gained a certain importance in the course of industrialization. Blacksmithing and locksmithing was one of the main branches of the economy. Until 1840 there was no parish church in Willenhall. With the establishment of St. Giles, the Church of England's first independent parish came into being.
