Eusko Abendaren Ereserkia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eusko Abendaren Ereserkia is the anthem of the Spanish region of Basque Country .

It comes from a folk flag greeting without text, the origin of which is unknown. The founder of Basque nationalism , Sabino de Arana Goiri , wrote a text about it. This combination became known as Gora ta Gora, the anthem of the Basque Nationalist Party PNV .

By law nº 8/1983 of April 14, 1983, the Basque regional parliament of the three Basque provinces in the Spanish state declared the song Eusko Abendaren Ereserkia to be the national anthem. From that point on, the national anthem, together with the irciña (Basque flag), became the most representative symbol of the Basque people.
