history

It was not until the 19th century that the number of Protestant Christians in the Opladen area increased as a result of industrialization. In 1840 the evangelicals living in Quettingen and Lützenkirchen decided by voting to belong to the community in Neukirchen . They also attended the service there.

After the Second World War, the number of Protestants in Quettingen and Lützenkirchen increased to 1,800 (1951) due to the reception of refugees. A community meeting in Quettingen voted on September 20, 1951 for a parish to Opladen after the church administration had assured Quettingen of its own pastorate; the reclassification took place on April 1, 1952. In 1954 Albert Buhlmann was appointed as the first Protestant pastor for Lützenkirchen and Quettingen. The service took place in a classroom of the new Protestant elementary school.

It was not until June 24, 1962 that the cornerstone of the Evangelical Church in Quettingen with its community center, kindergarten and rectory could be laid on Bahnstrasse (today Kolberger Strasse) and the corner of Jacobistrasse. Since February 9, 1964, the hexagonal church building with 400 seats, designed by the architects Duncker and Gröbing, has been the largest worship space in the Opladen community. The different building materials (wood, glass, concrete, brick) give it a special look.
